A Modern Family’s Remix: Pulling a Space Together in a South Shore Condo

When I first visited my client’s South Shore condo, I immediately noted how much the space had going for it. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the exposed cedar beams, high ceilings, and the open floor plan, which were all juxtaposed against neutral walls. On paper, it was perfect. But as soon as I had the chance to absorb the configuration of the main living area, I knew it was off.

The living room contained a rug, a very large sofa, a corner TV stand, a television, and a floor lamp. While many would see it as containing all the right pieces, it was lifeless. Not only was it stark, but it lacked direction. Nothing was technically wrong, but it hadn’t been pulled together. That’s often the moment our clients reach out — not because they need a full renovation, but because they want their space to finally feel complete.

The First Shift: Flow Before Finishing Touches

The first thing I noticed was that the sofa was oriented incorrectly and was disrupting the natural flow of the room. Before we added a single decorative element, I suggested moving the television to the opposite wall and rotating the sofa 180 degrees. That small change anchored the layout and connected the living room to the rest of the floor plan while still defining the boundaries of the individual spaces.

This conversation took place during our paid consultation — every Remix begins with a consultation. The consultation allows us to diagnose what’s really happening in the space before we bring in styling pieces, lighting, or finishing touches. This step is crucial because having a clear plan helps us streamline each install and allows us to achieve the best outcome for our clients.

Designing Around Real Life

During the consultation, my client shared a few things that were deeply important to him. He loves reading and has an extensive book collection that he wanted to display. As a divorced parent, he also wanted family photos integrated into the design, but wasn’t sure how to do so with confidence. As part of each Remix we ask our clients to make available any pieces they’d like us to incorporate on install day. Think art, shelf decor, family photos, etc. Because The Remix is as much about incorporating our clients’ belongings as it is about bringing in additional pieces that we’ve sourced.

Then came Install Day. The minimum investment for a Remix decor package is $2,000 plus tax, but this client opted for a higher spend so we could incorporate a full wall of bookshelves. We sourced flat-packed units and enlisted our trusted assembler, who completed the wall in under two hours — it was incredible to watch. On install day, we not only added pillows, throw blankets, wall art, and rugs, but we also styled the new bookshelves with his books and carefully integrated family photos, creating a personal, intentional display that felt elevated rather than scattered.

We also added a secondary seating area at the top of the stairs, layering the design throughout the condo and giving each corner a collected, cozy feeling. Every decision was made to pull the space together in a way that felt thoughtful, functional, and reflective of his life.

The “HGTV Moment”

With every Remix, we ask clients to remain nearby but out of view during installation. This allows them to experience the reveal, aka their own HGTV moment, when we call them in to see their transformation for the first time.

There’s something magical about the reveal. Each client’s reaction to their newly Remixed space is unique. My client’s reveal did not disappoint.  We watched as he climbed the stairs and listened as the room was filled with audible proof that both him and his daughters were charmed by the appearance of their newly finished space. Witnessing their response was truly magical. The space had gone from stark to cozy and from temporary to collected in a matter of weeks. While the install only took us 4 hours, the impact of what we do is longer lasting — by pulling each space together we are able to help our clients finally feel at home in their space. By adhering to our proven process, we are able to move through the process quickly allowing our clients to maintain their anticipation.

Why The Remix Works

The beauty of The Remix is its versatility. Clients can use their existing furnishings as the foundation, which protects their bottom line, while we layer in what’s missing, solve flow issues, integrate personality, infuse character, and add finishing touches that make the space feel complete.

The Remix may not be a full-scale renovation, but our strategic interior styling is designed to create a meaningful impact quickly. By simplifying the design process and focusing on value, The Remix removes decision fatigue and brings clarity to homeowners who do not have the capacity for a full-service renovation.

For many homeowners around the South Shore MA and Providence RI, this level of home styling is exactly what’s needed: a room refresh that makes a space feel intentional, collected, and cozy. And, here’s the best part — not many interior designers offer an interior styling package like The Remix. It’s a completely unique offering that we created because so many of you were asking for it. Furthermore, by leveraging our trusted trade network, we can elevate the finished product by tailoring each outcome to specific client needs.

The Outcome

When this project wrapped, the transformation was undeniable. The condo felt intentional, but more importantly, the clients were overjoyed.  Sometimes all it takes is seeing it with a fresh set of eyes to accomplish a true transformation.
